Why do Ventura and Osanic like Ron Paul? BOR 2013-6-13

I must say I have become completely fed up with the notion propagated by Jesse Ventura and cheered on by Len Osanic that Raul Paul is anything but an anti union, anti civil rights, anti minimum wage, anti universal healthcare, isolationist, luddite tool of the far right wing bastards who murdered John Kennedy. And let me remind you folks that beyond flapping his jaw about the Kennedy Assassination and September 11, he has done precious little to help reopen these investigations by someone other than the same old government stooges who produced the original reports, from his position in the U.S. congress. I can understand a loose canon like Ventura holding such stupid opinions, but when did Len Osanic lose his mind--or is he just being his usual pliable self?

As for Ventura running for president, would he support the same right wing anti working class positions of Ron Paul? Does he really expect anyone to start a ground swell of support when his hero is against everything that makes those folks' lives bearable?

Something doesn't quite compute here.

Prouty Thinks Sony stands for Standard Oil of New York. . . .WTF? BOR: 13-06-06

Much as Prouty seems to have an inside track on a lot of hidden information, like the presence of Zhou Enlai at Teheran, though I'd like to see some kind of confirming evidence beyond Prouty's claim that he "flew him there," he sometimes goes off the deep end with claims like: SONY stands for Standard Oil of New York, whereas the accepted derivation is a combination of "sonic" and "sonny." Even if the oil boys had helped fund a Japanese startup electronics firm, which sounds a bit peculiar on the face of it, would the Japanese really name the company after their funders? And remember, in Japanese, it's Soni, not Sony.

Prouty has other problems, psychologically speaking. He manages to comprehend that the JFK assassination was a coup d'etat, but he tends to compartmentalize his own culpability in the matter, allowing as he served as a conduit between the Air Force and the CIA and said not a word at the time despite the fact that, by his own admission, "everyone" in the Pentagon knew what had happened. It has always amazed me that a large percentage of the population will "go along to get along" even if they are "going along" with something as treasonous as the murder of the president.

By the way, I was looking forward to a discussion of The Girl on the Stairs. Apparently Len's laid back attitude encourages people to blow him off with no expectation of any serious consequences.

Boston Marathon bombings

Being a marathon runner, I like to follow the Boston Marathon coverage. Right near the finish line there were two big explosions. Highly unusual, I think. Some injuries but no deaths so far, thankfully. Maybe it's just me, but the first thing that comes to mind with something so out of the ordinary like this, are the "usual suspects".

I looked at it and thought -- wow, if they're planning on using this for a public relations campaign, forget it. These guys have been so long down the rabbit hole they have produced something that only makes sense from the perspective of researchers. It's dense and tedious reading.

At some point I swore I would never buy another book on the Kennedy Assassination, and I have pretty much kept to that except for the Douglas Horne AARB volume on the photographic evidence. I did, however, recently order a copy of Sherry Fiester's new book on the forensics of the case. I'm particularly interested in her take on the origin of the fatal shot, which I take was 20 degrees to the left of the underpass. For those of you planning on doing the same, keep in mind that there is a hefty processing and postage charge from her website, as opposed to ordering it through Amazon. So unless you need an autographed or inscribed copy or wish to support the author in her endeavors, the big box is probably a better buy. I'll post a short review when I receive it and read it, hopefully including my take on where the forensics can be overridden by evidence alteration and general deception.

OK, OK. I know Rachel Maddow is no leading light toward progressive change. she has to pull some punches. I thought she was brilliant 'til tonite. she began tonite's show on gun control showing the Manlicher-Carcano and talking about Oswald having killed JFK. I was floored. flummoxed. i tuned out. How should I respond? I e mailed her at rachelmaddow@msnbc.com, but i dont know if its valid. i told her she burst my balloon. i thought she was a genius. shes an idiot. i told her to return her Rhodes scholarship and spend the rest of her life in self-flagellation. I guess I'm hoping she willl come back on tomorrow nite, having been inundated with backlash like mine; and apologize and mend her ways.

Any of ya'll willing to do the same? I'd really appreciate it...I was about to start sex-change surgery so i could woo her.....

Len the Affable

On the recent show with Jim Fetzer, Fetzer commented how Len was always affable, and Len responded by saying he knew he was -- and also that he was the only affable member of the JFK research community.

Well, that's true. It's seemed true to me for years anyway. You compare Len's basic neutrality when it comes to certain issues with everybody else's total inability to look at an issue without exploding it in a massive partisan clusterfuck.

On the one hand, you'd want to say: Three cheers for Len! On the other hand, what is wrong with people that in an entire community of 'researchers' you're lucky to get even one person who isn't unhinged and is able to maintain a healthy neutrality for the sake of discussion?

Good episode. I wasn't aware of the lack of code books at critical places and the taking out of service of the communications lines. Clearly this operation was planned at the highest levels of government and wasn't restricted to rogue elements of the CIA. And the idea that the Kennedy assassination was Revision A of Operation Northwoods is quite fascinating. If I recall correctly, it was John Judge who also saw the antiaircraft guns at the Pentagon. Clearly, someone who was in a position to know things no one else did.

Coogan on UFOs

Coogan seemed surprised that there were no attacks on his UFO piece. His reaction is itself surprising since when it comes to UFOs and conspiracy research -- never the twain shall meet. UFOlogy, to the extent that such a thing exists, pays no attention to political conspiracy research other than as it relates to the supposed UFO coverup. I'm pretty sure no UFO researchers pay attention to CTKA and its reviews.

There's another reason why his review didn't cause ripples in UFOlogy as well: a number of UFO figures don't buy into the MJ-12 documents to begin with. Even Stanton Friedman, who makes a plausible case for the authenticity of a certain few documents, says that the majority of them are fakes.

It's hard not to conclude that Coogan, unfortunately, isn't really on top of UFOlogy, and that in a way, him offering opinions on UFO research-related topics is a bit like a Farrell or other paranormal author riffing on JFK in order to make wild, provocative claims.

Coogan in this interview identifies the two crazy positions as 'UFOs exist' and 'UFOs do not exist' with the only *sane* position in the middle being that, of course, they are a PSYOPS-type conspiracy. Of course, if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail, as they say. If you are a political conspiracy researcher, the UFO phenomenon can only appear in any credible sense to be a CIA mind-control operation taking advantage, in Coogan's words, of people's 'desire to believe'. Naturally, even a show like 'The X-Files' featuring a whole host of paranormal and UFO-related phenomena can itself only be the result of government involvement.

Coogan's interview, and his original article, shows how unfortunately his grasp of UFO-related phenomena ends in the 'fifties. He doesn't seem to have absorbed anything related to the more recent abduction phenomenon. Nothing suggests that he has any knowledge of the limited work done with implants. He is unaware evidently of even the fairly new idea that supports one of his own opinions: that some portion of abductions are 'MILAB' (military abductions).

None of this is any surprise. But if there is an irony here -- a major one -- it is this: the split between the camps represented by somebody like a Coogan on one hand and a Farrell on the other is itself proof of the triumph of the 'commodification' of research Coogan complains about in the interview. People devoted to one *genre* of research (and who prove that JFK or UFOs at bottom are consumed like entertainment genres) have a natural distaste for the other field. UFOs are the go-to topic if you are an assassination researcher and you want to pooh-pooh some other field as being an example of a field that *really* has no credibility. Meanwhile, to the outsider it all appears like one prostitute calling another prostitute a slut.

Jim made a big deal on this episode about Ruth Payne not knowing whether her sister lived in Virginia or not. I feel I should point out a few facts here.

I used to attend some of the estate sales in Washington and its suburbs. Traveling south on the Capital Beltway (I-495), you come to the Clara Barton Pkwy, which runs along the C & O Canal directly into Glen Echo, Maryland. If you drive across the bridge over the Potomac and get off at the next exit, you're in McLean, Virginia. Get off a couple of exits farther south and you're near Falls Church. And I'll tell you, if you didn't have a map, you wouldn't know whether you were in Maryland or Virginia. You have to go fairly far out before you start hearing a southern accent.

In the end these places are all western suburbs of DC. What she knew was that her sister lived near the Potomac River (accent on the -to-) west of DC. It's not as if she didn't know the difference between Rockville and Alexandria. Now that I would find suspicious.

9/11 as Intelligence Op

I've not accepted the official story on 9/11 for ages now. But naturally, it's always been unclear exactly what happened, what parties were responsible, etc.

More specifically, while it's always seemed clear that some sort of 'powers-that-be' were behind it, I always thought it possible 9/11 was more a Defense Dept./Private contractor op.

Well, now I feel sure that the old-school intelligence agencies were involved. Reason?

Do a search for the Mohammed Atta visit to a certain Dept. of Agriculture office looking for a loan. Or you can also listen to an MP3 interview with Prof. Paul Zarembka on "Guns and Butter".

Atta goes in, spells his name out loud repeatedly. Says he wants a loan to get a small plane to do crop-dusting (this was to link the anthrax attacks with 9/11 in the minds of the public later -- but this fell through). When the woman said there was a process and that he couldn't just walk out the door with a couple hundred thousand dollars, Atta blew up at her, asked what would happen if he came behind the desk and slit her throat. Then as if nothing had happened, he noticed an aerial photograph of D.C. on her wall and demanded that she sell it to him. When she refused, Atta began to ruminate out loud about how it would be if a foreigner came and destroyed all those national monuments. Etc. Etc. The story goes on.

What this should remind you of is Lee Oswald handing out pro-Castro flyers right next to Navy ships, getting into 'fistfights', etc., to make sure everyone in the world was aware he was a pro-Castro leftist, etc.

Harvey and Lee, Previous Generation!

I'm working on a graphic of the family tree of the two Lee Harvey Oswalds that I will post when finished based on the work of John Armstrong. However, at least on the audio tape, Armstrong claims that the name "Harvey" comes from (the tall) Lee Harvey Oswald's maternal grandmother, which would make the name of (the tall) Marguerite (Claverie) Oswald's mother "Dora Harvey." Dora was the wife of John M Claverie. Now this is still possible, and I may have misheard something, but the fact is that the father of (the tall) LEE Harvey Oswald, as opposed to the short Lee HARVEY Oswald, shows up in the census of 1910 for New Orleans, Louisiana, not as Robert E L Oswald, as he does in 1920, but as LEE Oswald. And this LEE Oswald, the son of William and Mary Oswald, has a brother named--I'll give you folks one guess at this! Yes, when the elder LEE was 14 years old in 1910 his brother HARVEY was 21 years old. Which raises the tantalizing possibility that Lee HARVEY Oswald was the son, not of Robert Edward Lee Oswald and Margaret Keating, as Armstrong tentatively hypothesizes in the interview, but of the uncle of LEE Harvey Oswald, Harvey Oswald, and his wife, perhaps the very same (short) Marguerite well-known to everyone. This would make the two Lee Harvey Oswalds not half brothers, as some of the evidence suggests, but 1st cousins, which would answer a lot of the inconsistencies in the evidence. Stay tuned. This is getting interesting.

"Margt O. Keating," 1947

Just a curiosity I ran into while looking at the records for Margaret Keating. In 1947, while continuing to live at 120 N. Telemachus in New Orleans, which identifies her as the correct Margaret Keating, she is listed as "Margt O Keating," widow of "Lee O Keating." The O in her name is clearly Oswald. This is a fairly rare usage, the reversal of the last and middle name, but I have seen it before. Now R. E. Lee Oswald had been dead since 1939, and "Lee" hadn't been married to her, at least officially, since 1933, so why is she calling herself his "widow" in 1947? And why is she calling Robert, "Lee Oswald Keating"? I have seen Robert, Sr, referred to as Lee elsewhere, so that's not a problem, but the distortion of his last name says something, I'm not sure what, about her perception of her own identity.

#591 Jim Marrs Alternate Zapruder Film Claim

It's a short interview with a French journalist, name of Reymond, who claims to have seen the early Zapruder version mentioned in an email to Jim DiEugenio. Take it for what it's worth.

Just a couple of points.

1) The reporter claims the copy came from H. L. Hunt--who bought a copy from Zapruder--via a French right-winger.

2) The car came to a full stop, at which point Kennedy was shot TWICE in the head.

3) There was an obvious hole in the freeway sign.

4) Elm Street turn is on film.

5) Eight or nine shots were fired.

One wonders what DiEugenio will do with this, considering his belief that the film was not altered. Clearly, if this guy is for real, Costella is right about film alteration and reconstruction.

I've gotten about halfway through the Armstrong interview, and I must say it's worth the money. It's a bit hard to follow, and I guess I will have to listen a couple more times before it becomes crystal clear. What I can't quite understand is why someone has not republished the original book, which only had a print run of a thousand copies the first time around. Considering how important this book is, I can only wonder if it cuts too close to the bone for anyone to risk bringing it to a wider audience.

Nags Head call / Raleigh call ... clarification

I'm a native of North Carolina and a portion of my JFK Assassination Chronology was published in Jim Fetzer's book, MURDER IN DEALEY PLAZA.

I'd like to comment on Jim DeEugenio's statement on a recent show that Oswald made a call to Nags Head, North Carolina.

In fact, Oswald placed the call to RALEIGH, North Carolina. What has become known as "the Raleigh call" was explored in depth in a now defunct Raleigh magazine called THE SPECTATOR. The story was well researched by Grover Proctor. Bernie Reeves was the editor of THE SPECTATOR and is now the publisher of METRO MAGAZINE in Raleigh, NC. (I recommend both men to you as interesting interviews for your show, Len.)

Nags Head is about a three hour drive from Raleigh. (I think Jim mentioned that Nags Head was close to Raleigh. I suppose "close" is a matter of interpretation.

I list this entry in my chronology:

10:45 PM (Nov. 22, 1963) Oswald, who has been placed in a cell on the fifth floor of the Dallas City Hall, places a long distance call to Raleigh, North Carolina. According to one of the switchboard operators, Mrs. Troon, she and a coworker (Mrs. Swinney) have been alerted that law enforcement officers -- she believes they might be Secret Service men -- will be arriving to listen in on an Oswald telephone call. Two men eventually arrive, show identification and are shown into a room next to the switchboard. When Oswald places the call, at about 10:45 PM this evening, Mrs. Swinney manages the call with Mrs. Troon listening in. Oswald is informed by Mrs. Swinney, as she has been instructed, that the number doesn’t answer. The call is then disconnected without ever really having been placed. Later, Mrs. Swinney tears the page off her notation pad and tosses it into the trash can. Mrs. Troon later recovers the note and retains it as a souvenir. (That slip of paper will turn up seven years from now in a Freedom of Information suit brought by Chicago researcher Sherman H. Skolnick (a civil action filed in Federal District Court in Chicago, April 6, 1970, No. 70C 790). It shows a collect call attempted from the jail by Lee Harvey Oswald to a John Hurt at 919-834-7430 and it gives an additional telephone number in the 919 Area Code, 833-1253.) The call is made to Raleigh, North Carolina to a man named John Hurt. The note lists two alternative numbers, which do appertain to published subscribers of that name. One of the two John Hurts served in U.S. Military Intelligence during World War II.

Professor Blakey, Chief Counsel of Congress’ Assassinations Committee, will eventually conclude: “It was an outgoing call, and therefore I consider it very troublesome material. The direction in which it went was deeply disturbing.”

Victor Marchetti, author of THE CIA AND THE CULT OF INTELLIGENCE, alleges that Oswald’s attempted call to Raleigh is an effort to contact a “fake cutout.” He explains that all intelligence agents work through “cutouts”, middlemen who are called if an agent is in a scrape. Therefore, according to Marchetti, Oswald thought he was working for a spy agency, most probably the CIA.

There were two John Hurts listed in the 1962 Southern Bell telephone directory for Raleigh, North Carolina. John W. Hurt is listed as living on Old Wake Forest Road and has not been traced by researchers. John David Hurt is listed as living on New Bern Avenue. This Mr. Hurt, who served as a U.S. Army Counterintelligence officer during World War II, was contacted by researchers but denied that he ever received or made a call to LHO in the Dallas jail. John David Hurt is now deceased.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Detailed information regarding the Raleigh telephone call was initially uncovered by Grover Proctor and Bernie Reeves and first reported in The Spectator, Raleigh, N.C.

Secret Service agent Abraham Bolden was the duty officer for the Secret Service’s Chicago office on the weekend of the assassination. He states that the Secret Service office in Dallas contacted him late on the evening of the 23rd and requested a report on any phonetic spelling of “Hurt” or “Heard.”

Gerry Patrick Hemming states that the CIA had access to “call forwarding” during the 50s and 60s - well before the general public knew of it. According to Hemming, “Call Forwarding,” at this time, was a secret service available to various intelligence agencies. It is possible, therefore, that Oswald’s Raleigh call was forwarded once it was routed through Raleigh, N.C. Hemming suggests that the call was possibly routed to either the Elizabeth City or Nags Head area of North Carolina.

The Warren Commission Report merely states that: “Between 4 and 4:30 p.m., Oswald made two telephone calls to Mrs. Ruth Paine at her home in Irving; at about 5:30 p.m. he was visited by the president of the Dallas Bar Association with whom he spoke for about 5 minutes. From 6 to 7:15 p.m. Oswald was interrogated once again in Captain Fritz’ office and then returned to his cell. At 8 p.m. he called the Paine residence again and asked to speak to his wife, but Mrs. Paine told him that his wife was no longer there.” The telephone call to Raleigh, NC is not mentioned by the Warren Commission. WC

SO - it IS possible that the call was routed to Nags Head ... but we do have a CIA base in Elizabeth City.

On a personal note, I know a lot of people on North Carolina's Outer Banks where Nags Head is located. There were, of course, cottages along the beach during the time Oswald could've received his training as a defector there - but the population was small enough so that the influx of even a dozen or so military personnel would've been noted. This, as I discovered, is the case. People I've talked to there remember around a dozen men who were sent to the Coast Guard station on the Outer Banks. The "word" was that they were recovering alcoholics involved in a program to rehabilitate them. Oswald could very well have been among them. So, Marchetti may be correct in asserting that Oswald quite probably received some of his training as a defector at or near Nags Head, North Carolina.
